And all of a sudden there is a new video that no one (?) knew about? Not that the whole skateboarding world was waiting for an Insight video, but they just released a skate and a surf video on their website.
The name of the video is “Repeat after me: I am free” which I only saw once before. In a Mob griptape ad with Jamie Thomas.

Nice (cover) song, definitely fits the skating. Water bottle lines, nice one!

Burger Banks gone gone

In case you might thought that the fence the put around the Burger Banks were just for looks….
The ’sidewalk closed’ signs are were the banks stood. And the wooden frame behind the signs is the old (empty) Hollywood video building.

“I think it’s kinda fun when the cops come, like run, skate, chill”. Kinda sums up skateboarding in America…. This part is from Transworld’s The Reason, released in 1999 (Damn, I feel old). Defenitely one of my favorite Transworld videos of all time. Other riders in The Reason were Matt Mumford, Cairo Foster (!), Danny Gonzales, Gershon Mosley and Danny Montoya (!).

Skateboarding is forever but so is free beer, no matter how old you are. You have to be 21 and older in America to get into a bar though.

Kind of a crappy version of the flyer, but the DC website is so not user friendly that after looking in the ’skateboard’ section for a few minutes and not finding anything but a trick tip video, I just googled this flyer.
Ow, and this dive bar comes up a ‘Daley Double Saloon’. See you in Encinitas Thursday…. maybe.

Atiba was smiling the whole set.
Braydon was stagediving on flatground.
Figgy couldn’t stop talking about Holland and about how hyped he was on the Emerica AZ trip from last week.
Spanky was jamming and not scared of the topless chubby guy that was slamdancing in front of him.
Beagle hit the drums hard and people yelled ‘Beagle, Beagle, Beagle’ twice during the show.
Shane Heyl is a great frontman and entertainer.
Ty Evans was taking photos the whole time.
Eric Koston was there and he’s pretty much a celebrity.
Andrew Reynolds’ didn’t get bumped into (and that’s a miracle).
Sammy Baca was there, and Mike Carrol, and Shad Lambert, and Lizard King and The Nuge.
The Goat did an awesome version of Blag Flag’s ‘Wasted’!
Atiba shotgunned a can of beer, with the help from the Nuge.
I ran into this guy from Ireland that lived in Utrecht for a while (Ronan).
The place was so fucking dark. I wonder if they can’t afford the electricity bill.
No one talked about (the name of) The Goat album or the shoe.
The free booze was gone within an hour.
During the show the place was packed and fucking hot!

Can’t wait for the next show!

The title of this post is probably my favorite Jennifer Lopez song, but I thought it would also fit the upcoming shows this Friday in LA.
The Goat is inviting everyone to their new album release, but I’m not sure if the place (Three Clubs in Hollywood) holds a ton of people. I heard through the grapevine that The Goat is hitting the stage between 9pm and 10pm, so get there on time if you wanna GET BUCK!

And together with the new album The Goat is also releasing a collab shoe with Emerica.

And besides Andrew Reynolds and Spanky fellow skateboard pro Mike Vallely will be doing a Black Flag tribute set called “I’ve heard it before”. And since Black Flag played when I was still in elementary school, this is gonna be an intesting show for people like me who never saw the ‘real’ Black Flag play live.

I saw Henry Rollins once to a Black Flag tribute show at the Paradiso (to benefit the Memphis Three), but this could be just as interesting. After all, Mike V is pretty much the Henry Rollins of skateboarding….

Church of Skatan skatepark

In Irvine, CA there is church that has a HELL(avu) lot of money so they decided to lure the kids into religion by building a skatepark. Not to bad of an idea huh?
But if only you could skate it all day everyday and without the ‘adult supervision’…. Isn’t god supposed to look after all his people regardsless?

Ow, and of course the helmet law. You would think the church people want you to hit your head so you would just shut up and listen right? No questions asked for something that pretty much unexplainable….

Kyle Leeper cruises through downtown LA

Thanks to the Black Label blog we saw this really cool video of Kyle Leeper skating through downtown LA. It kinda reminded me of the Pontiac commercial with Pat Duffy and Jake Brown we posted here a few weeks ago, but than way better. Less drama, more pushing and cruising at a normal pace.
Leave it to etnies video wizard Mike Manzoori to make a short video that gets me that anxious to go skate! This might just be our favorite part for this year….

Downtown LA huh…. So close yet so far away…. To all my friends that I’ve been stalking to get the crew together and go out there on a Sunday. Let’s skip a TF sometime soon and go up to LA (once the storm is over). Get there while we can!
